I know there's a religious war going on out there about HDMI.  As I see it, there are two camps:  the "it's the best quality out there" camp and the "it's proprietary" camp.

Now, I'm not a zealot, and I'm not even the videophile that can tell much difference between HDMI and component video.  But one clear advantage I see of component (and others) over HDMI is that I can switch component video through my receiver (fewer remote controls, baby!) but not HDMI.

So, after all that, my question is somewhat specific...  Will I ever be able to switch HDMI that way?  And should I care?

Not a monster, just really big.

The fact you can't switch HDMI through your receiver is only caused by the fact that few receivers  offered this feature until fairly recently. I'm guessing your receiver model is probably a few years old.

There are many receiver models sold today that offer HDMI video switching as an option, and even on some of the more moderately priced options. Plus, if you don't want to buy a new receiver, there are some external HDMI swtiches being sold, which is handy if you run out of HDMI inputs on your set.

I just posted on this in the "Monster Central" area...I was hoping that onster might get into producing one of these switches. With their almost monopoly on the quality aspect of cables, connections and innovation in home entertainment market, I would think it woudl be a very good fit for the company...

Is this even a remote possibility?

I agree with you quixotic_1, I would love to see monster get more into creating really nice video switches. For example, I tried a several component video switches before I I finally settled on one from Psyclone (who does also make an HDMI switch. I've never tried the HDMI switch, so I can't vouch for it). I'm pretty happy with my Psyclone, it works great and there's no major difference in image quality (at least that I can tell). However, I went through several terrible switches before I found it. If Monster made one, it would probably be great, and I would have gravitated towards them first.

I agree with you as well...if they had it, I would have certainly considered it before all others. Now, maybe we will be lucky and someone at Monster will pick up on this...

There is a high probaility that you are having HDCP issues with one or more of your components. HDCP was built as part of the HDMI spec to get hollywood onboard with the spec and dispel their fears about bootlegging High Definition content. Unfortunately, this causes problems with any device that acts as "duplicating" component, i.e. A/V receivers.

HDMI knows this as a problem, but hopefully the 1.3 spec resolves this. Find out more at: HDMIinfo.org

Thanks for the interest in a Monster HDMI switcher. Hopefully I can give you some good news about this soon.

Raffi, please do convey that news if you get it! I will wait a few more months to upgrade what I have now...but not too much longer. I am hopeful that - if Monster manufactures one - it will be remote actuated so that I can include it in my remote command scripts...but, just having a high quality unit would be very nice!
