You probably have the component video with audio. Do you have a component video TV?

I just bought a used playstation 2, but the monster cables that came with it have 5 connections to the TV. And i can't figuer out were they go? I'm using an old tv that only has yellow, white, and red.

Kevin is right on track, and is right that you snagged a used PS2 with component video cables. Hold on to those, they'll give you a better picture down the road if you get a newer TV.
In the meantime, head off to your local game shop (GameStop, EB, etc.), and pick up a regular audo video cable kit for PS/2. I'm sure you can find some originals used, and maybe even find a deal on Monster's GameLink™ 200 A/V Cable for Playstation 2. Definitely the way to go if you want the best you can get.
