This may sound like a very simple and silly question, but do you have all three (red, green. blue) cables plugged in, and into the correct colors in the back of your set? Plugging in component cables incorrectly could result in a black and white picture.

If you've made the connections correctly, then I would try another component cable to see if that works - did you get one of the cheapy giveaway ones with a DVD player or another piece of electronics you've bought, just to do a test? If another component cable works fine, then exchange the new cable you have for a replacement. It's unlikely that your cable needs replacement, but it's possible.

If you determine that the cable is not the issue, then the input on the television could be the culprit, which may call for more advanced service.
