Bio

I started as a music hobbyist in the 1950's when I was young, listening to my parents records. I was a fan of Janis, Jimi and Jim Morrison when they were alive, I got to see The Who a year before Keith died and the original Lynyrd Skynyrd band. I enjoy live music but can't take the high volume anymore, so I have many music concerts on dvd. I have been selling audio/video since 1974, before remotes and vcr! I have seen all these changes over the years. I remember when customers thought $1 a foot speaker wire was expensive. Back then a big tv was a Sony 27" tube. My first music system was a Hitachi AM/FM/cassette player with 2 speakers and a BSR turntable with a ceramic cartridge. My first real audio system was a Pioneer SA-7100 integrated amp with Dynaco A-25 speakers and a Garrad Zero-100 turntable with a Shure M91ED cartridge and a TEAC 360 cassette deck.  I progressed to a Marantz 2245 receiver with 2 different ESS Heil speakers, then used the Marantz as a preamp, bought the famous Adcom GFA-555 amp with Thiel CS-3 speakers all wired with Monster of course, that system sounded great! I went thru 2 AR turntables, a Thorens TD-160 and TD-325, then bought a SOTA Sapphire, sold it and bought a SOTA Star with Premier MMT arm and Shure Ultra 500 cartridge, which I still use, also added a Denon DP-500 M turntable with a Monster HTS-3500.  My records sounded best when I used my old PS Audio 4.6 preamp with the bigger power supply, I should have kept that. I have about 350 cds and 500 records, all in perfect condition, never loaned out, all with plastic inner and outer sleeves, 35 year old records that sound great, many are autographed by the performers. I had a Wadia 361, Musical Fidelity A-300 integrated on B&W 803 D speakers, but I moved and sold those, now I use Rotel separates with B&W 805, CC1 and CM1 with my Velodyne HGS-15 sub for my theater system with the Pioneer Elite Pro-940 plasma, it is awsome. My secondary system is Yamaha RX-V3800 with three Energy RC/LCR and a Velodyne SPL-10 sub and Denon dvd in my smaller room. I plan to get a Toshiba HD-A35 player. I rarely buy cds or records anymore, I listen to what I have or listen to my music on DISH network, the big band, new age and jazz channels. I have always appreciated quality equipment, I did not always buy the best but the "best value" as I tell my clients to do.

A WB mistake?

Generic Member Avatar Thread started by MusicmanIA on January 10, 2008 8:12 AM

I think Warner Bros. made a mistake by pulling out of HD DVD sales. They were an original supporter of Toshiba format and had many good titles on it. I sell home theater at a...

HDMI cable quality.

Generic Member Avatar Thread started by MusicmanIA on January 15, 2008 10:55 AM

Many customers ask me, why should I spend $100 vs. $50 for an HDMI cable? Simple, you get what you pay for. I direct them to watch Noel Lee demoing the cables on the Monster...
