Monster and Walt Disney Announce Consumer Education Initiative at the 2008 CES

With the seemingly endless number of options in the marketplace for high definition TVs, hook up cables, and audio/video epuipment, it's high time someone stepped up to the plate and teach the masses how to get the best home theater experience. Monster Cable and Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment have teamed up to do just that by announcing the "Higher Definition" education and promotion initiative during the 2008 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The new Monster campaign is focused on helping clear up consumer confusion about today’s fast-evolving high-definition home entertainment technologies, as well as helping today’s new generation of younger retail salespeople effectively communicate the many benefits of HD to their customers and help them make wiser purchasing decisions. The campaign features a specially created educational Disney DVD, a new Home Theater Made Simple book as well as a new in-store training program and high-impact P.O.P. materials. Why the major education initiative? Noel Lee, Head Monster and founder of Monster Cable, gives a great example that illustrates the need for better knowledge in the retail and consumer marketplace. “According to the Consumer Electronics Association, an astonishing 56 percent of consumers who own HDTVs never watch in high...

Top Tips For Curing the Car Amp Blues

Many car amplifiers are incorrectly diagnosed and sent in for repair/returned because of incorrect hookup. Sometimes the amp itself really is at fault. Here are a few common problems and what can be done to troubleshoot, as well as fix them (my fixes are the most common. They are not definitive in any way. Your amplifier could have a completley different problem, though it is unlikely): Problem: Amplifier does not turn on. Solution: Rule number one in amplifier hook up is to make sure the amplfier has a good ground. This means that it is secured to bare metal that is clean, rust-free, and tight. Is the remote wire hooked up? Be sure it is, and that it is hooked up to the blue wire w/white stripe coming from the head unit, NOT the solid blue wire. After that point, if the problem still exists, you're probably looking at bad parts in the PSU (power supply unit). The majority of the time, it's because mosfets are blown. It is never a bad idea to try hooking up the amplifier in a different car or taking it in to be tested just to be sure. Sometimes you can open the amp...

Installing an Aftermarket Head Unit: Common Problems

So you're tired of the stock stereo that came with your car due to it's lack of features, sound quality, or just overall flexibility. Time to upgrade. I will provide a brief overview of how to install an aftermarket head unit, however, my main intent is to dispel some common problems that seem to accompany amateur installations. If you have a double DIN head unit (meaning the stereo is about four inches high) do not dismay. There are many aftermarket dash installation kits that cost around $20 and will convert your double DIN opening to a single DIN opening. Single DIN head units are about two inches tall, are MUCH more popular, and are generally lower priced and have better features. Beginning actual installation, you want to be able to know how to get your car stereo out of the dash. Honestly, there is no consistent method to doing so. Ford head units will have two holes on either side that you can stick a coat hanger in, bend out, and slide the head unit out (a trick is to also use two flathead screwdrivers that slip between the side of the unit), whereas many Honda's and foreign cars can...

How To Properly Tune Your Car's Speaker Volume

Hi everyone. I thought I would post this because I hear so many people driving around that obviously don't know how to do this. When setting up your head unit(radio), the goal is to have all of your speakers playing at the same level. By this I mean you don't want one set of speakers to start distorting before the others. The first step to this process is to disconect your subs if you have them. Then you want to turn off either your front or rear speakers. Many head units let you do this, or you can disconect the speaker wires. Then, turn up the radio untill you can just start to hear distortion out of the speakers. Make a note of the highest volume level before you heard any distortion. Now, connect another set of speakers and disconnect the set you were just listening to and repeat the process. If your fronts distorted before the rears, disconnect the rears again and use the fader to get the fronts to the same spot just before distortion occurs while at the volume you noted for the rear speakers. You now have your speakers set evenly. They will play as loud...

iCarPlay repair?

I've owned my iCarPlay for about 9 months and it's been deteriorating over the last 3-4. First the LED display became very dim, now the entire device (charger, display, FM broadcaster) does not work. Anyone else have any experience with a broken and/or defective unit? Any ideas about how to repair? Thanks in advance.
