Important: April Site Updates and Improvements

Greetings, As many of you have seen, MonsterCommunity has undergone several updates and improvements over the last few months. As we continue to evolve this innovative and original approach to our community software platform, we hope you find many of the changes and enhancements enjoyable and useful. I would also like to say that as we continue to try new ideas, we really value feedback from you, our users. Not all of the changes we've made over the last year have made people do cartwheels and backflips out of pure joy, but we always have our ears perked up to hear your thoughts and make this community work exactly how you want. The vast majority of changes I'll talk about below are inspired by the feedback we've gotten, so please keep those suggestions and calls for improvements coming. So without further adieu, let's get to the updates! This time it's all about the forums and comments, and I (personally) think you'll all love what's new. Single Thread, Single Topic First the biggest change of all... After much feedback, the concept of multi-dimensional forum threads is going away, meaning that threads will no longer be multi-tagged to forum topics. The concept...

Monster Cable Patent Protection

Hey, did you guys see this over on audiojunkies.com? --- On April 1st, Kurt Denke of Blue Jeans Cable and Tartan Cable (a subsidiary of Blue Jeans Cable) received a cease and desist request letter from Monster Cable's legal counsel. It appears as though Monster Cable feels that some of Kurt's connectors are too much like their own design patented connectors. Monster Cable stated that there were multiple patent infringements on the part of Tartan and that all of the products in question needed to be recalled. They also requested an account of the units sold and a report of the profits made from those sales. Could it be a really distasteful April Fool's Day joke? Nope, Monster Cable just happened to pick the most ironic day possible to deliver their letter. Continuing with the irony, Kurt Denke (owner of Blue Jeans Cable and Tartan Cable) is the last person that Monster Cable should have tried to bully. Kurt is a lawyer with over twenty years of experience, some of which is in intellectual property litigation, making him the ideal candidate to fight back. ---- here is Kurt's letter of response: --- RE: Your letter, received April Fools' Day Dear...

Surge Protector Failed, Warranty is Absurd!!!

One of the admins said that monster people read this forum so I am posting this here. I purchased a monster HT800 about 8 months ago and just recently my apartment was struck by lightning. I had most of my expensive electronics plugged into the surge protector, and for the most part, the surge protector failed. My computer (seems to be only motherboard), Yamaha Receiver, Nintendo Wii, and Printer were all plugged into the surge protector, and they all fried. My TV, DVD, cable box, and speakers were also plugged into the surge protector, and for whatever reason, they are fine. The surge protector was the only connection to the outside world, so the surge must have gone through the surge protector. So the surge protector, for whatever reason, did not do its job. I contacted Monster because they have $150,000 replacement gaurentee plastered all over their packagaing. When I contacted them, I was told I had to fill out 3 sheets with a diagram... fair enough. But then I have to send out all of my damaged equipment to certified repair shops and get estimates. From talking to some of the manufacturers, this could take 3-4 weeks, probably more. ...

Audiobahn Amp Trouble

Im new to the forum and i have a question. I recently just bought an Audiobahn A16000V and i installed it in my truck and when i came time to turn it on, the protection light just stayed on. i realized i heard a sound coming from the grounding spot itself and could feel vibrations coming through the wire. i thought it might have been the wiring so i hooked up another amp to it and it worked perfectly fine. So im guessing its the amp, but i have never seen anything like this before. Has anyone encountered this or know whats going wrong? Thanks

Monster Cable is currently distributing a free educational DVD with the sale of every HDMI cable they sell. The DVD unpacks the relatively-new world of high-definition, and helps home theater enthusiasts get more out of their high-def equipment. A new page containing exclusive video clips from this DVD has been launched on the community. Check it out if interested. I'd also be interested in hearing what everyone thinks of the vids. Useful? Educational?

Seems like the newest thing in video are displays that are running at 120Hz with 1080p and capable to play 24fps. Seems to me that there has not been very much talk about this up until recently. Now that people are set with their new HD TV with full 1080p and their new blueray player, out from nowhere you have old technology because if you want the best video you have to have a 120Hz display. Time for yet another upgrade?

What should be my motivation for running cable or satellite coax through a power strip? I bought a Monster power strip that has that capability, but I'm confused on why I'd want to run my DirecTV feed through it. Is it for protection against a lightining strike on my dish? How likely is this to help?

HDMI cable quality.

Many customers ask me, why should I spend $100 vs. $50 for an HDMI cable? Simple, you get what you pay for. I direct them to watch Noel Lee demoing the cables on the Monster website, very interesting. Many cables truthfully cannot pass a 1080p signal, the pipe is too small. So you have your new $2000 lcd or $4000 plasma, don't you want total performance from it? Would Tony Stewart put 100mph tires on his race car? Your cable is a one-time purchase! Monster gives you the incredible "Cable for Life" replacement on the HDMI 1000 series, you can't beat that. Your cables and Power Center are cheap, they will give you maximum performance no matter what components you change in the future. So go for the best!

I think Warner Bros. made a mistake by pulling out of HD DVD sales. They were an original supporter of Toshiba format and had many good titles on it. I sell home theater at a large dealer in Iowa, we sell 3 Toshiba models about 4/1 over all our 7 or 8 Blu ray models. HD DVD has so many more advantages. Do you see any extras on "300" on Blu Ray? Are they software upgradable? Are they fast to load and play? Was SACD viable to the general consumer? Kudos to the movie companies who are and will still support HD DVD format.
