Running Coax Through Power Strips

What should be my motivation for running cable or satellite coax through a power strip?

I bought a Monster power strip that has that capability, but I'm confused on why I'd want to run my DirecTV feed through it.

Is it for protection against a lightining strike on my dish? How likely is this to help?

Some have filters but, it would be important to run the coax through the strip because it has surge protection. A surge can take out your whole system. Lightning can find its way to your equipment through the power, phone and coax lines if they are not protected.
