Home Theater Channel level calibration: Receivers Test Tones or Calibration Disk?

What is the better way to calibrate a sound system? Do you use the built in Test Tones or a Calibration Disk?

I use the calibration disk. Can't say for sure that it is the right thng to do,but I figure that if the DVD player changes anything, that it would be adjusted out when I use the calibration disk.
